Fazeel (L) had a field day scoring four of VB's six goals

Male', MALDIVES - Ibrahim Fazeel was in top scoring form when VB Sports beat Foundation for Vilufushi Development (FVD) by 6-0 in today’s Dhiraagu Dhivehi League encounter. Fazeel, who was under heavy criticism these days for lack of scoring form, converted four and Eugene scored the rest to keep their faith in the league.

VB, who started the game without key defender Boyko, could not create much open chances in the early stage of the game. But in the 13th minute, Ibrahim Fazeel took a shot inside Vilufushi penalty area which passed across the goal.

Three minutes later VB keeper Sinan knocked away a header from Razzan to a corner. Jeribe took a powerful shot from the corner, which was also saved by Sinan.

In the 22nd minute Fazeel lost the best scoring chance so far in the game, left alone in the penalty area and keeper out of position Fazeel couldn’t convert the effort into the goal.

But in the next minute captain Ali Umar dribbled past the defenders of FVD and crossed the ball into the penalty area, which Fazeel sent to the top corner to break the deadlock.

In the 34th minute Mohamed Hussain’s header from Ismail’s cross missed the target.

In the dying minutes of first half, FVD’s Areen could have punished VB for Sinan’s blunder. The ball slipped out of his hand, but Areen couldn’t make a touch on the ball due to the pressure from defender Firaz.

In the 59th minute Eugene added his name onto the score sheet. He slowly sent a bass by Fazeel to the goal to increase their lead, but less than a minute before he hit the crossbar in on close effort.

In the 64th minute Ibrahim Fazeel scored VB’s third in their next chance. Fareed’s pass was good enough for him to glue the ball into the bottom corner.

Four minutes later Fazeel completed his hat trick, converting the pass given by Eugene. Fazeel was unmarked inside the penalty area when received the ball.

Match came to a halt in the 72nd minute due to a clash between VB players and FVD keeper. VB officials controlled the clash before it’s too late, but referee showed a yellow card to VB’s Firaz and sent off FVD keeper Moosa Fathee for his role.

Fazeel scored his fourth goal in the 85th minute from another combination of play with Eugene.

Eugene sealed the victory in the extra period of the game from a chip shot.

Reliable sources confirmed FVD Coach Lirqam Saeed was asked to change his Sonee Sports sponsored t-shirt, because FVD is under the sponsorship of All Sports. But he did not change the t-shirt.

After the match VB coach Carlos hailed his players for the superb performance and said he can sleep well tonight. He also noted the performance of Ibrahim Fazeel, who scored four of their six goals.

"We lost in the past two matches and if we had lost today's match, VB would surely be broken. I can now relax and sleep well tonight because of today's win"

"After the last match against Victory I took the players to Villingilli and I explained to Fazeel that he should not be worried. I told him that he gets in to the right position to score goals and the goal scoring would naturally come back. If he did not get in to the right position it would be a problem. But he came back superb today"

“Later today we saw the players playing tic-tac football. It would take them time to adjust to it and it might cost us a lot. There are people who do not like the type of football I am asking players to play. But I am sure later on everyone would applaud to my players for the superb football they play"

FVD coach Lirqam throws some words of frustration against the referee for the red card shown to their player and he also criticized match commissioner Hashim. Lirqam also believed the lack of discipline from his players cost them such a big loss.

“The referee took a bad decision. The player who made the foul was not shown a red card and instead a player who did nothing was shown a red. It was definitely a wrong decision"

"The match commissioner made us loose concentration on the game. The match commissioner or the fourth official complains if I am in the technical area for even 2 minutes. But for the bigger club's the coaches can stay for 5 minutes. The match commissioners should be educated and should know the laws of the game. I want to give this as a message to FAM and please act accordingly"

"Before the match, I knew we would loose, but I did not expect so many goals. It is mainly because some of our key players did not have the discipline I wanted. We sure need one key player who can lead the team"

"Kelechi could not perform in the past two matches and he was terrible even today. So he might sit on the bench for the next game"
